Southern Metro cracks down on bikers with no helmets
MANILA, Philippines - The city governments of Muntinlupa, Pasay and Las Piñas are strictly enforcing the “no helmet, no travel” rule on motorcyclists to curb crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding robbers and killers.
Muntinlupa Mayor Aldrin San Pedro said he directed the city’s traffic management bureau to intensify the implementation of the rule as part of the city’s campaign against crime.
Pasay police officers and traffic enforcers have set up mobile checkpoints in key areas of the city. Authorities said among those arrested are suspected carjackers and robbers along Taft Avenue near Gil Puyat Avenue and an alleged drug courier.
The Las Piñas police has also set up mobile checkpoints to inspect motorcyclists and passengers of air-conditioned buses entering and leaving the city.
