Malabon man slain in own house

MANILA, Philippines -  A 58-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while he was drinking with at least nine visitors in his house in Barangay Niugan, Malabon City at around midnight Saturday.

There was a knock on the door at around 11:15 p.m. before two men barged in and shot Florante de Dios once in the chest. The victims’ companions dragged him into a room and locked the door. One of the gunmen followed and fired at the room’s door several times before escaping. The attackers left the visitors unharmed.

De Dios died on the way to the Malabon community hospital. Police investigators, who recovered several shells for .45 caliber and .9mm pistols, have yet to find out why he was killed.

Last Friday, two unidentified men shot dead a teenage girl in Barangay Longos at around 3:15 a.m.

Police said the identity of the girl, approximately 16 to 18 years old, remains unknown. Investigators recovered three shells for a .9mm pistol near her body.
