The inauguration of what used to be called E. Rodriguez street will be done to commemmorate the 83rd birth anniversary of the former prelate, the Archdiocese of Manila said in a statement.

Church officials led by two of Sin’s former secretaries – Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas and Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes – will join Mandaluyong officials in the renaming rites.

The archdiocese said the decided to name the street after Sin, who died in 2005, because he played a significant part in restoring democracy in the country.
