MMDA collects 5,000 tons of garbage in estero cleanup
MANILA, Philippines - The amount of garbage collected by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in its ongoing estero (waterway) cleanup has already reached 5,000 metric tons.
In the agency’s radio program, the MMDA said this amount of trash is enough to fill up about 800 trucks.
The estero cleanup, dubbed the August Estero Blitz, started Aug. 8 and is expected to finish on Sept. 8. The drive aims to declog 69,766 meters of waterways in Metro Manila.
The MMDA said it expects the local governments to continue with the cleanup when the project ends next month.
