Seaman claims cop beat him up at Caloocan bar

- Jerry Botial -

MANILA, Philippines - A seaman told authorities yesterday that a policeman reportedly beat him up just outside a bar in Caloocan City Friday night.

Fernando Montanez, 35, said he was drinking with some friends at a bar along 4th Avenue in Grace Park when he decided to go out for some fresh air at around 11:30 p.m.

A man drew a gun and introduced himself as a police officer then proceeded to attack him, Montanez said. The victim said the man only stopped when a friend intervened.

Montanez said he only found out about his attacker’s identity from bar employees, who identified him as Police Officer 1 Joseph Dee of the Bagong Barrio Police Substation 1.

Police authorities said Dee has been invited to report at the investigation office to shed light on the incident and confront his accuser.

Montanez is considering filing physical injury charges against Dee.
