LTO renews crackdown on PETCs

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has restarted efforts to crack down on erring private emission testing centers with the closure and revocation of licenses of eight PETCs for allegedly issuing falsified certificates of emission testing compliance.

LTO chief Virginia Torres said yesterday more than 50 other PETCs are facing similar sanctions.

Smoke emission testing is a mandatory process required under the Clean Air Act before any motor vehicle owner is allowed to renew their vehicle’s registration at the LTO.

Ordered closed were Manila-Midwest Windshield and Emission Testing Center in Rizal, MTM Emission Testing Center in Manila and CATB Emission Testing Center in Bulacan.

Also padlocked were BDR Emission Test in Pampanga, Bambang Emission Test Center in Nueva Ecija, Summit Emission Testing Center in Quezon City, Pilar Emission Testing in Bataan and Airpool Emission Testing Center in Makati City.
