Rookie cop, 4 civilians nabbed for gunrunning

MANILA, Philippines - A rookie policeman and four civilians were arrested during separate operations in Metro Manila for alleged gunrunning activities.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. identified those arrested as Police Officer 1 Jerome Javier, 26, and Jordan Abero, 26, Virgilio Catangay, 48, Flor Beros, 39, and Arnold Valencia, 33, all project supervisors of AC Cunanan Construction Inc.

Pagdilao said CIDG operatives confiscated three caliber .45 automatic pistols, four magazines, extra barrels, silencers and live ammunitions from the suspects.

Pagdilao said that Javier was arrested while negotiating the sale of two caliber .45 pistols. He said Javier pointed to Beros as his supplier of illegal firearms. Beros was arrested in an entrapment operation by CIDG operatives at Hypermart in Cubao, Quezon City.
