85,570 flunk civil service test

MANILA, Philippines - A measly eight percent or only 12,207 of the 97,777 examinees who took the civil service examinations administered by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in May, hurled the tests.

Results released yesterday show that 85,570 flunk the examinations.

A total of 81,599 individuals took the test for professional level, while there were 16,178 examinees for the sub-professional level.

The National Capital Region (NCR) posted the highest passing rate at 19.1 percent or 2,426 passers out of 12,703 examinees.

The Cordillera Administrative Region came in second with 14.57 percent passing rate followed by Central Luzon with 13.97 percent, Western Visayas with 13.69 percent and the Bicol region with 13.36 percent.

The CSC said majority of the passers (9,154 individuals) indicated their decision to begin a career in public service as their main reason for taking the civil service examination.

At least 3,943 of those who passed the civil service test were relatively young, or aged between 18 to 24 years.

Women also outnumbered men as 7,333 female examinees passed the tests as against the male passers who totaled 4,813.

The CSC said there were 2,833 passers from the private sector and 1,874 from the government while more than half of the total number of passers at 6,801 or 55.71 percent are unemployed.

Ronald Cesar Castillejos and Sandino Jose Manliclic, both from the NCR, shared the top spot for the professional level test with a rating of 84.63.

Paul Michael Corpuz, also from Metro Manila, got the highest score in the sub-professional test with an average of 84.79.
