80 bikes stolen each month - QCPD

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - Around 80 motorcycles are stolen while parked per month in Metro Manila, 20 percent of them in Quezon City, city police director Chief Superintendent George Regis said yesterday.

In a statement, he said car theft gangs may be shifting to stealing motorcycles because they are easier to steal and sell, either as a unit or broken into parts.

He said motorcycles have been stolen practically wherever they are parked: along the kerb, in front of owners’ houses, parking lots, and churchyards.

Superintendent Ferdinand Villanueva said the best way to prevent a motorcycle from being stolen is “a heavy duty lock chaining the motorcycle to an immovable object” and the installation of a hidden ignition switch and a fuel supply lock. The owner can also remove the capacitor discharge ignition before leaving the motorcycle, he said.
