Maid throws own baby in trash bin
MANILA, Philippines - Police are mulling filing charges of abortion or infanticide against a housemaid who reportedly threw out newborn baby boy with the garbage in Quezon City.
Police Officer 3 Modestino Juanson said Analyn Silvano, 22, remains confined at the East Avenue Medical Center since her arrest Saturday.
The woman had been working for more than a month as a helper and staying at her employer’s house in Barangay Pinyahan.
Juanson said the maid was arrested by police Saturday after a baby was discovered by driver Roberto Mugas in a trash bin in the house.
The baby’s body had a piece of cloth around its neck, indicating it could have been strangled.
Mugas confronted Silvano, who admitted it was hers. Their employer never knew that she was pregnant when they hired her.
Mugas claimed Silvano asked him to help her to get rid of the baby but he refused and told their employer what happened. That same day, the maid was placed under arrest and brought to the hospital for medical attention.
Juanson said the maid claimed she gave birth last Thursday after she accidentally tripped and fell.
Police are still waiting to conduct an autopsy on the baby to determine whether it was strangled.
