Optical technician dies in railroad robbery
MANILA, Philippines - A 53-year-old optical technician was shot dead by a robber who took his jewelry as he was on his way to buy a newspaper near the railroad tracks in Sta. Mesa, Manila yesterday morning.
Police said Agelino Itable, of NDC Compound in Sta. Mesa, was fond of wearing expensive jewelry and could have attracted criminals lurking along the railroad tracks.
Itable was driving his blue motorcycle (7399-TD) along Altura street at around 7 a.m. when a man on another motorcycle blocked his path. At gunpoint, the robber asked for Itable’s jewelry, but the victim reportedly put up a fight.
The robber shot Itable and took his necklace, bracelet, ring and an undetermined amount of money.
Bystanders rushed the victim to the UERM Hospital, where he died while being treated for a gunshot wound in the body.
Residents have been complaining of frequent muggings along the railroad tracks in Sta. Mesa.
