Carjackers have new modus operandi - NCRPO
Manila, Philippines - A group of carjackers have come up with a new modus operandi: they not only took an investment firm manager’s car, they also made her withdraw P46,000 from her bank account and gave her P1,000 to go home, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said yesterday.
“This is the first time we encountered this type of modus operandi of carjacking syndicates,” NCRPO director Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said.
He ordered Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Gabriel Lopez to get sketches based on the description provided by victim Sherlyn Rapisura.
Police said Rapisura was parking her Hyundai Tucson in front of her house in Marikina City Wednesday when four armed men commandeered it at gunpoint. They ordered Rapisura to go to Makati City, where was told to withdraw money from an automated teller machine along Maya street in Barangay Rizal.
The carjackers also took the victim’s laptop, cell phone and jewelry before leaving her with P1,000 and abandoning her in the C-5 Palar area, Taguig City.
Rapisura said her attackers were wearing baseball caps. She said they repeatedly warned her against looking at them.
Purisima said the suspects have a lot of information about Rapisura, including her home address and the money she had in the bank.
“We should leave no stone unturned in our investigation, especially the inside job angle,” said Purisima.
