Election of Taguig SK president upheld
MANILA, Philippines - The Sangguniang Kabataan National Federation (SKNF) recently upheld the election of Michelle Mae Gonzales as the duly-elected secretary general and president of SK in Taguig City.
Gonzales emerged as the winner in the SK elections held on Oct. 25, 2010 for the Western Bicutan area, SK national coordinator Honey Rose Mercado said in a statement citing a resolution passed by the SKNF.
Gonzales also won the Panglungsod na Pederasyon elections held on Dec. 3, 2010 where she garnered 15 votes, besting all other candidates in the race, the statement said.
Taguig City officials refused to recognize the victory of Gonzales and held a recall election on Jan. 16, 2011 where Ricardo Cruz IV allegedly won.
SKNF noted that under Article VI, Section 4 of the SKNF’s constitution and by-laws only the national executive board of the SKNF has jurisdiction over controversies involving the SK president.
SKNF ruled the Jan. 16, 2011 recall election is invalid as the election was held without the supervision of the appropriate Commission on Elections representatives.
