- Nestor Etolle -

MANILA, Philippines - One of five men who allegedly beat and robbed a Japanese tourist in Ermita, Manila Monday morning was arrested by the police yesterday.

Malate police station chief Superintendent Dominador Arevalo Jr. said Baser Lingo, 18, of Adriatico, Manila, was identified by Asao Ibaraki, 39, as one of five men who ganged up on him while he was strolling along Remedios Circle. Ibaraki also lost 60,000 yen, bank documents and a cellular phone, according to Arevalo.

Ibaraki later regained consciousness at the Ospital ng Maynila, Arevalo added.

Lingo was arrested while apparently waiting for another victim along Adriatico street by a team of policemen headed by Chief Inspector Benigno Macalindong. Recovered from Lingo were 10,000 yen and Ibaraki’s cell phone.

Arevalo said the suspect is currently undergoing tactical interrogation.
