Robbers shoot travel firm worker

MANILA, Philippines - An employee of a travel agency is reported to be in critical condition after a robber shot her for refusing to give up her belongings last Saturday.

Police said Cristina Payo, 38, was waiting for a ride home at about 3:30 a.m. when an armed man accosted her at the corner of F. Santos Avenue and Lourdes street in Barangay Zapote, Las Piñas City. When she resisted, the robber shot her in the stomach, waking the neighborhood. Before the robber fled, witnesses said he even fired a warning shot. The victim was rushed to Perpetual Help Medical Center.
