MANILA, Philippines - A 17-year-old boy was jailed yesterday for lobbing a hand grenade at a group of men he accused of repeatedly bullying him in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.
The grenade, however, did not explode and the men beat him and burned him with a lit cigarette until barangay tanods rescued him. The boy admitted his crime and said he will do whatever it takes to get even with his tormentors.
“They kept on bullying me and the last time they took my Chicago Bulls cap, which I bought for P300,” the boy said.
He said he got the grenade by destroying a locker at the Mandaluyong City Hall’s K-9 unit.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Armando Bolalin ordered the teenager charged with illegal possession of explosives. A bomb expert from the Eastern Police District said although the grenade did not explode because while the safety pin was removed, the secondary pin on the grenade was untouched.
