Flights to Australia cancelled due to ash cloud

- Rudy Santos -

MANILA, Philippines - Flights from Manila to Australia and back were still cancelled yesterday due to ash cloud caused by the eruption of a volcano in Chile.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) flights PR 209/PR 210 from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 bound for Melbourne, Australia and its turn-around flights has been cancelled since Tuesday night while Qantas Airlines flight QF 020 Manila to Sydney has been delayed from original schedule of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar said the ash cloud is also too low around Perth for aircraft to fly safely.

Winds have carried particles 5,600 miles from the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano range since its eruption last June 4.
