QC warns residents: Unsegregated waste won't be collected

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government is warning residents that starting July 1, it will no longer collect garbage that is not properly segregated.

The city’s Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) said prior to the strict implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” scheme, a dry run shall be conducted for at least two weeks.

Unsegregated waste will not be collected and “notices of violation” will be issued residents not following the policy.

For the dry run, garbage collection will be done thrice a week in every barangay or district. On each of the three days, a specific type of garbage will be collected: biodegradable waste on Monday and Tuesday and non-biodegradable and residual waste on Wednesday.

The EPWMD said once the dry run is over, garbage collectors will only collect biodegradable waste twice a week, while recyclables will remain with the barangay material recovery facility, which receives, separates and prepares recyclable materials for marketing to end-user manufacturers.
