Barrameda killer nabbed in Bataan

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

Manila, Philippines - Police arrested a former warehouse officer tagged as the one who strangled to death Ruby Rose Barrameda before her body was stuffed in a drum, filled with concrete and dumped in Navotas waters in 2007.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said Lennard Descalso, alias “Spyke” was arrested in the residence of his father at Road 2, Polaris Subdivision, Mariveles, Bataan at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday.

Bataan provincial police director Senior Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao said the apprehension was carried out by virtue of the warrant of arrest issued by Malabon City Judge Hector Almeyda for the murder of Ruby Rose, a sister of actress and beauty titlist Rochelle Barrameda.

Bataan intelligence operatives gathered that Descalso went home in his father’s residence Wednesday night after learning that the court ordered his arrest for his participation in the Barrameda murder.

Manuel Montero, who earlier confessed of his involvement in the killing, claimed Descalso was the one who strangled Barrameda.

Montero confessed he was among those who were paid P50,000 each to kill Ruby Rose on March 12, 2007 upon the orders of her father-in-law, Manuel Jimenez Jr. and his younger brother Lope, owner of Buena Suerte Jimenez Fishing and Trading Co., the property where the steel drum containing Ruby Rose’s body was found.

Police records showed Descalso served as warehouse officer of Lope’s BSJ Fishing and Trading Co. since 2003.

The Jimenezes maintained they had nothing to do with the killing.
