MANILA, Philippines – A woman was shot dead as she fought off carjackers who drove away with her car in Quezon City yesterday morning.
Teresita Teano, 34, sustained a gunshot wound in the right cheek and right upper arm. She died on the spot.
The incident happened in front of Brahma Krudis meditation school at the corner of T. Gener street and Kamuning Road, Barangay Kamuning, where the victim was to attend a session.
Police Officer 3 Gregorio Maramag said Teano also got ran over by her own car, a red Hyundai Accent, as carjackers drove off the vehicle. He said a village official related that two men were involved in the carjacking.
Teano’s companions in the meditation school told police that they heard shouts for help at about 6 a.m. as they were waiting for the victim to arrive. When they checked, they saw her car speeding off as the victim lay on the street.
Another woman, believed to have been a victim of mistaken identity, was also gunned down in Quezon City Tuesday night.
Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District, identified the victim as Cheryl Agnes Sarmiento, a 39-year-old party organizer residing in Fairview, Quezon City.
“I don’t think that she was the real target. The gunmen may have mistaken her for someone else,” Marcelo said in an interview.
Marcelo said the victim was driving a white Toyota Altis (NIU-285) and driving along Commonwealth Avenue when the incident happened. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Officer 2 Jogene Hernandez said witnesses saw at least four armed men involved in the incident. The assailants were masked and wearing black jackets.
