Chiz, 6 others hurt in road mishap

-

Manila, Philippines - Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero and six others from a Catholic parish suffered minor injuries in a vehicular collision at an intersection in Quezon City Thursday night.

The collision occurred at the corner of Don A. Egea and Maryland streets in Cubao. Inspector John Ganzon said the intersection had no traffic light and was dimly lit.

Escudero was reportedly driving his Lexus car along Don A. Egea when he collided with a Kia van driven by Manuel Merilles, 36, at past 9 p.m. Merilles was traveling along Maryland street.

Police identified the passengers of the van as chaplain Ronil Domingo, 49; church secretaries Emy Domingo, 49, and Lourdes Olivades, 62; pastor Narciso Castro Jr., 62; and Ruth Domingo, 20. Ganzon said all those hurt were treated at the St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Ganzon said both parties have agreed on a settlement and neither will be filing any charges.

Judee Aguilar, a member of Escudero’s staff, said the senator was resting and scheduled to undergo a routine checkup for “minor pains” in his right hand and temple.

She said Escudero “continues to monitor” the only Kia passenger who was “retained for admission to the hospital” for knee pains.
