28 jailed OFWs in Saudi to be released

- Sheila Crisostomo -

Manila, Philippines - At least 28 overseas Filipino workers jailed in Saudi Arabia for petty crimes will soon be released, Migrante-Middle East said yesterday.

Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator John Leonard Monterona said the release of the 28 inmates has been assured after they had undergone “basamat,” a local practice that involves clearance formalities like finger printing and filling up of clearance forms.

He said 23 of the 28 inmates are from Malaz Central Jail in Riyadh while five are from Al-Hair Jail. There are about 2,000 inmates in other detention cells in Saudi Arabia.
