Harbour Centre complies with coal storage standards

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Harbour Centre Port Terminal Inc. (HCPTI) has been cleared of any environmental violation on its handling of coal shipments at Harbour Centre in Manila after a series of tests showed the quality of air and water in the area is within government standards.

The Manila City Council’s ad hoc committee reported that HCPTI was granted an Environmental Compliance Certificate by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to handle and stockpile coal shipments in the vicinity of Harbour Centre.

The ad hoc committee report also showed that HCPTI also submitted compliance reports showing water and air tests within the vicinity of Harbour Centre were within limits set by the government.

The Manila City Council had earlier initiated an inquiry on the alleged violation of HCPTI in its handling of coal shipments in the Harbour Centre as some coal fragments were allegedly being washed into the bay area and that the coal stockpile was emitting particulates.
