Chinese drug suspect attempts suicide

- Non Alquitran -

Manila, Philippines - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima ordered yesterday a 24-hour suicide watch on a Chinese man caught with 44 kilos of shabu with a street value of P222 million after he trying to kill himself several times.

Ian Chao Qui, alias William Dee, 44, repeatedly banged his forehead on the cement wall of his detention cell at the NCRPO’s Regional Police Intelligence and Operating Unit and swallowed three keys and a nail cutter.

Purisima said the objects showed up on the x-ray film and they are thinking of having the suspect undergo an operation to remove them. The suspect is in good condition otherwise, according to a medical checkup.

Qui was arrested Tuesday night in a drug bust in Sta. Cruz, Manila. In a brief chat with an interpreter, the suspect was dismayed that his companions, also Chinese, have abandoned him.
