Cops await arrest warrant for bus driver in Simbulan accident

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines -  National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said they are still waiting for a warrant for the arrest of a bus driver who smashed up a taxi carrying veteran journalist Chit Estella Simbulan on May 13.

Purisima called on Daniel Espinosa, the driver of the Universal Guiding Star Bus line, to surrender and face the consequence of his actions.

He said that while they are waiting for the warrant, “perhaps we can use the principle of hot pursuit in arresting him.”

Espinosa disappeared after his bus rammed a taxi along Commonwealth Ave nue last Friday, killing Simbulan, a professor at the University of the Philippines.

The results of an investigation done by the Quezon City Police District showed Simbulan’s taxi came from Tandang Sora and was headed towards Philcoa when it was sideswiped by an unidentified bus.

Another bus, driven by Espinosa, then rammed the taxi, crushing its rear end. Simbulan was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities have checked Espinosa’s house, but he was not there.
