Chinese arrested with 44.5 kilos of shabu

MANILA, Philippines -  A Chinese man was arrested during a drug bust in Sta. Cruz, Manila Tuesday night, with police officers discovering 44.5 kilos of shabu and two kilos of dried marijuana leaves in his car.

National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said the arrest of Ian Chao Qui, alias William Dee, 44, was part of the NCRPO’s clampdown on illegal drugs.

He ordered Superintendent Remus Medina, head of the Regional Police Intelligence and Operating Unit (RPIOU) to go after the suspect amid reports that he is behind the proliferation of illegal drugs in Manila. 

Using a deep penetration agent, Medina said they managed to negotiate the purchase of one-half kilo of shabu for P2 million.

After two weeks of surveillance, Purisima said Chao was arrested after handing more than half a kilo of shabu to an undercover police officer.

When Purisima’s men searched his Silver Nissan Cefiro, they found three small bags and a traveling bag full of shabu, and two kilos of dried marijuana leaves. The policeman also confiscated the suspect’s cellular phone, and the P20,000 “boodle money” used in the buy-bust operation.

An interpreter hired by the NCRPO claimed the suspect denied being a drug pusher. “He claimed that he don’t know that his cargoes are illegal drugs,” the interpreter told Medina.

Medina said the confiscated shabu and marijuana leaves were turned over to the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for thorough examination.

Police are set to file sale, trading, dispensation and possession of illegal drugs charges against Dee before the Manila prosecutor’s office.
