FPIC installs 10 more recovery wells in Bangkal

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - The First Philippine Industrial Corp. (FPIC) said yesterday it has installed 10 additional petroleum recovery wells in areas of Barangay Bangkal in Makati that were affected by a leak in the firm’s pipeline.

The new petroleum recovery wells are equipped with QED submersible pumps, which are “more efficient and productive versus the wilden pumps currently installed outside the earlier wells,” Nards Ablaza, FPIC Bangkal Remediation Project manager, said. A total of 16 PRWs have been installed in the area. The PRWs were put in place by FPIC’s contractor, CH2MHILL, a remediation and engineering services company, in the vicinity of the West Tower condominium.

CH2MHILL project manager Jong Piquero Sr. said the older wells are pumping out an average of 1,300 liters of pure hydrocarbon a day. “We will try to double that rate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ablaza said FPIC has ordered a multi-phase extraction system from the United States that will handle the soil and ground water remediation in Barangay Bangkal. The MPE, he said, is expected to arrive in the country about the third quarter of 2011.
