Metro temperature surges to 36.5º Celsius
MANILA, Philippines - The temperature in Metro Manila surged to a sizzling 36.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, the hottest recorded since January this year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Pagasa weather observer Ben Oris said the warmest temperature was recorded at 2:45 p.m. at the agency’s facility in Quezon City. The new record surpassed the 36.1 degrees Celsius experienced on April 26. Oris said the temperatures in Metro Manila are expected to rise further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Oris said a low pressure area was spotted east of Mindanao yesterday which is expected to bring rains in some parts of the country in the next three days. He said the LPA is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone by Saturday. Oris said the LPA is expected to bring rains over the Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao.
Light rains are also expected in Metro Manila due to the LPA, he added.
Pagasa expects one or two tropical cyclones to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month.
