MANILA, Philippines -  A two-hour fire hit a residential area in Parañaque City Saturday night, rendering 40 families homeless and destroying property worth roughly P1 million.

Probers are eyeing an electrical short circuit from a streetlamp as a cause of the fire that razed 20 houses at the Florenciana Compound in Barangay San Dionisio.

Fire Officer 3 Paul Milo said the fire, which reached Task Force Bravo, started at 10:40 p.m. Saturday and was put out at 12:45 a.m. on Sunday.

At least 80 firetrucks from volunteer firefighters’ groups and the cities of Taguig and Parañaque were needed to put out the blaze, Milo said.
