MANILA, Philippines - The temperature in Metro Manila hit 36.1 degrees Celsius yesterday, the warmest recorded since January this year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The hottest temperature was recorded at the Pagasa Science Garden in Quezon City at 3:55 p.m., according to Pagasa weather branch chief Robert Sawi.

He said temperatures in the metropolis are expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius this summer.

Pagasa recorded the warmest weather in Metro Manila on May 14, 1987 at 38.5 degrees Celsius.

Sawi said temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days. He said the weather will be a lot warmer in May than the latter part of April.

The hottest day in the Philippines was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius on May 11, 1969 in Tuguegarao City.
