2 detainees slain in MPD station

MANILA, Philippines -  A policeman shot dead two detainees after they allegedly tried to grab another policeman’s gun while they were being questioned in the Sta. Ana, Manila police station yesterday morning.

Ruzzel Tactagon, 18; and Jeffrey Camposano, 19, died at the Ospital ng Sta. Ana, where they were brought after the shooting.

In a police report, the two detainees were arrested following a street brawl at the corner of Tejeron and Zamora streets at around 10:30 p.m. Monday. A pen gun and two sachets of a substance suspected to be shabu were recovered from the suspects.

The two detainees were reportedly under investigation when they allegedly attacked Police Officer 1 Jose Jesus Martinez and tried to grab his service firearm. PO3 Erwin Solanio, who was in the investigation room, said he drew his gun because his colleague was in danger.

Tactagon was shot in the head, while Camposano was hit twice in the body. Solanio submitted his service firearm to the Manila Police District crime laboratory as MPD head Chief Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla ordered a deeper probe of the incident.
