MMDA to motorists: Avoid EDSA, take other routes

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday advised motorists to avoid EDSA and take alternate routes as the ongoing concrete re-blocking being done by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is expected to slow down traffic along the metro’s 24-kilometer major artery.

MMDA spokesman Yves Gonzalez told reporters the MMDA understands the complaints of motorists but stressed that the re-blocking is needed for EDSA’s maintenance.

The portions of EDSA affected by the re-blocking are from the Kamuning flyover up to Cubao and in front of Camp Crame.

Gonzalezsaid re-blocking is done every Thursday night by DPWH personnel. All re-blockings are expected to be finished by tomorrow, the MMDA said.

The MMDA advised affected motorists to instead take sidestreets, the C-5 Road , or make use of the alternate Mabuhay lanes.
