Probers rule faulty wiring caused QC fire that killed 6

MANILA, Philippines -  A fire that killed all six occupants of a house in Quezon City earlier this week may have been caused by faulty electrical wiring, according to an arson investigator.

In a recent interview, Senior Fire Officer 1 Rosendo Cabillan said they have completely ruled out foul play in the fire that engulfed a two-story duplex of the Sedilla family in Barangay Central Monday morning.

“Our theory is that the flames originated from the ceiling of the garage and (the burning debris) fell on the parked vehicle below,” Cabillan said, referring to an Isuzu Trooper that was destroyed by the fire.

Initially, firefighters thought the fire started in the Hyundai Starex van that was parked behind the Trooper, but Cabillan said the Trooper sustained more damage than the van.

He said the fire could not have started in the Trooper since its wiring was intact.

Cabillan, who saw the victims’ bodies when he went into the master’s bedroom on the second floor, said he saw no stab or gunshot wounds.

Cardiologist Dr. Elson Sedilla, 50; his wife Susan, 50, a non-practicing pediatrician; their two daughters Janina Nicole, 20, and Patricia Ann, 17; house helpers Lenlen de Leon, 27, and Anna de Leon, 30, died in the fire.
