Chinese interpreter shot dead at Pasay coffee shop

- Perseus Echeminada -

MANILA, Philippines –  A Chinese national who worked as an interpreter for a mining firm in Zambales was shot dead at a coffee shop along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City shortly before midnight Wednesday, police said yesterday.

Chief Inspector Raymund Ligudin said victim Pao Chen Chiang, 54, was meeting with fellow Chinese nationals when suspect Condrado Valenzuela, who was sitting at a nearby table, drew a pistol and shot him twice in the head.

Ligudin said Valenzuela was killed in a shootout with security guard Ian Colite.

“We are verifying the background of the victim and the suspect who is believed to be a hired killer”, Ligudin told The STAR. He said they are checking reports that Valenzuela is a convict who is supposed to be serving his sentence at the New Bilibid Prisons.
