DFA helps Pinoy seafarer

- Pia Lee-Brago -

MANILA, Philippines -  The Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Colombo has extended assistance to a Filipino seafarer who figured in an accident while onboard Sri Lankan-based M/V Brillante Virtuoso to claim his insurance and back wages.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday that the Consulate General and the Status Maritime Corp. provided assistance to Filipino seafarer Henry Canazares Laguardia.

The seaman was able to claim his insurance and back wages, which the shipping company earlier failed to deliver.

The Consulate sought the assistance of a law firm in Sri Lanka to represent Laguardia in claiming his legitimate demands. He met an accident while on board the vessel and sustained burns.
