Slain Korean's house was a gambling den

- Aie Balagtas See -

MANILA, Philippines -  The killing of a Korean national in the upscale Ayala Alabang village last week has taken a new twist after police found out that the house he was staying in was being used as a gambling den.

The Muntinlupa City police and PNP’s Anti-Transnational Crime and Computer Division confiscated 12 computer monitors and six CPUs used for an illegal online casino game after raiding the house at 312 Alitagtag street.

City police chief Superintendent Eleazar Matta said police discovered that the house was utilized as gambling den when investigators dropped by to probe the death of Kyung Il Lim, 39, last Jan. 31.

He said they could not immediately confiscate the computers without proper coordination with members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), who have taken the computers.

“We (local police) do not have the technical capability to extract information or date from the computer so we decided to coordinate with the CIDG. We do not want the to put to waste the integrity of the information we can extract from the computers,” Matta told The STAR.

He added that the police find it “a bit difficult” to penetrate Ayala Alabang because of the village’s tight security measures.

According to Matta, several Korean nationals were staying in the said house but abandoned it after Kyung was shot dead. No suspect has been arrested but online casino is now eyed as the motive behind his death, said Matta.
