Wall collapses on 7-year-old boy

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A seven-year-old boy was killed yesterday morning when a wall of a demolished school building in Quezon City collapsed on him trying he was trying to pry steel bars from the wall.

Julius Villaflor, a first grader at the Tandang Sora Elementary School, sustained fatal head injuries when what remained of a wall fell on him at around 10 a.m. yesterday at the former site of his school just in front of his home in Barangay Old Balara.

Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 6, said Villaflor was rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

He said the school building was abandoned and demolished to pave way for the C-5 Road extension project. Some portions of the building remained, and Pedrozo said the area was not barricaded.

Investigators are looking into the possible liability of the school in the boy’s death.
