Makati council eyes more CCTV cameras

- Jose Rodel Clapano -

MANILA, Philippines -  The Makati City Council will prioritize passing an ordinance to provide funding for the installation of more than 40 additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at strategic areas in the city following last week’s bus bombing.

Makati Vice Mayor Romulo Pena, Jr., presiding officer of the city council, said they are supporting Mayor Jejomar Binay Jr.’s campaign for a crime-free city. Binay earlier announced that he would install more than 40 additional CCTV cameras all over the city following the bombing of an air-conditioned passenger bus along EDSA last week, killing five persons and seriously wounding 13others.

Pena said as vice mayor, he can steer the city council to pass an ordinance to finance the allocation of additional cameras to beef up the 20 CCTV cameras already installed at various points in the city.

“The security and safety not only of the residents but the people doing business in Makati is our principal concern, thus I am supportive of the plan of our mayor to procure more closed-circuit television cameras,” he said.
