Mechanic caught stealing car from mall

MANILA, Philippines - A mechanic was arrested after he allegedly tried to drive off with a car from the parking area of a mall in Fairview, Quezon City Sunday night.

Senior Inspector Roldante Sarmiento said suspect Bryan Quinio, 26, claimed he worked alone and stole cars so he could sell their parts to junkshops.

Police said Quinio went into the parking area with his blue Toyota Corolla XE, then picked the lock of a silver Toyota Corona owned by retired policeman Leodegario Biagtan. He tried to drive it out of the parking area, but mall security guards stopped him when he failed to present a parking ticket and called police for assistance.

Police said there had been several complaints of cars stolen from the same parking area, and sources said guards have been extra alert for such attempts.
