2 dead, 2 hurt as jeepney hits trike in QC

MANILA, Philippines - Two drivers were killed while at least two others were injured when a passenger jeepney sideswiped a tricycle along IBP Road in Quezon City Sunday night.

Traffic Sector 5 commander Senior Inspector Maximo Sabio identified the fatalities as tricycle driver Marbe Cagampan, 29; and jeepney driver Michael Gansay, 27.

Police Officer 3 Edgardo Talacay said Cagampan was traveling along IBP Road in Barangay Batasan Hills when a jeepney driven by Gansay sideswiped his tricycle at around 11:15 p.m.

Tricycle passengers Melesa Nevelesco, 45, and Sonny Alunan, 17, were hurt in the incident.

The jeepney was traveling so fast that Gansay was unable to control his vehicle when the brakes failed, he said. The jeepney turned on its side, injuring Gansay’s passengers, who were taken to the nearest hospital.
