2 women tagged in Caloocan councilman's slay

MANILA, Philippines - Police widened yesterday their hunt for others involved in the New Year’s Day murder of a Caloocan City councilman that had been captured on camera by the victim himself.

Senior Superintendent Jude Santos, Caloocan City police chief, said apart from five men who have been charged for the murder of Barangay 35 councilman Reynaldo Dagsa, 38, two men have been added to the list of suspects.

“I have formed three teams to hunt them down in three different areas. My men are now zeroing in on them,” Santos told The STAR yesterday.

Five suspects – Michael Rullon, 27, Frederick Sales, 29, Rommel Oliva, Francis Bronjal, and Arnel Buenaflor, the alleged gunman – were charged with murder Wednesday before the office of Caloocan City assistant prosecutor Darwin Canete for Dagsa’s slay.

Rullon and Sales, are now in police custody but the three other men remain at large.

Dagsa was taking pictures of his family in front of their house in Maypajo, Caloocan City when he was shot dead while welcoming the New Year. The alleged gunman, Buenaflor, was caught by the victim’s camera pointing a gun at him.

According to Canete, the five men accused had a previous “run-in” with the victim, who happened to be one of the witnesses in another case filed against the suspects before his office.
