Fire hits Muntinlupa factory, Manila school
MANILA, Philippines - Fires broke out at a garments factory in Sucat, Muntinlupa City and at a university in Manila yesterday morning.
Muntinlupa City fire marshal Chief Inspector Roderick Aguto said about P14 million worth of property went up in smoke when the blaze engulfed the Style Works Manufacturing Corp. building along the West Service Road before dawn yesterday. The fire was put at around 8 a.m.
“The warehouse was totally gutted when we reached the area so we just contained the fire to (prevent) it from reaching a nearby residential area,” he said.
Aguto said the firemen were delayed because the gate and main door of the factory were locked.
In Manila, a fire hit the Philippine Normal University’s Center for Teaching and Learning Building at around 10:24 a.m. yesterday, according to Fire Officer 2 Lords Hernandez.
The blaze, caused by an overheated electrical cord of a refrigerator on the third floor of the building, was put out at 10:48 a.m. Hernandez said firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.
No one was injured in either incident, officials said.
