Suspect in Malabon cop's slay nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - One of two suspects in the killing of a Malabon police officer in a dental clinic robbery in Valenzuela last week has been arrested in Quezon City.

Police arrested Marlon Achazo, 32, and an 18-year-old boy Tuesday after they robbed another dental clinic on Mindanao Extension in Barangay Talipapa in Quezon City.

Police said Achazo is principal suspect in the killing of Senior Police Officer 4 Rodolfo Ladaban in the robbery in a dental clinic in Valenzuela last Dec. 20.

Ladaban, a senior investigator at the Malabon police traffic unit, was killed when his wife’s dental clinic on MacArthur Highway in Barangay Marulas, Valenzuela was robbed.

One of the two suspects shot Ladaban in the right eye and fled aboard a passing passenger bus after divesting his wife, Dr. Jeanie Ladaban, of her wedding ring and necklace.

The policeman died in a hospital the following day due to his gunshot wound.

His wife and her secretary first identified the suspect through the Valenzuela police gallery of criminals.

On Wednesday, Dr. Ladaban and her secretary went to the Quezon City police station to confront Achazo.

Charges have been filed against Achazo before the Valenzuela prosecutor’s office.
