Bus driver charged for killing judge in road mishap

MANILA, Philippines - A bus driver involved in the road mishap that killed a retired Makati judge and his wife on Monday has undergone inquest proceedings.

Generoso Magante Jr. of Corimba Express Inc. is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. He underwent inquest proceedings Monday night.

Retired Makati Regional Trial Court Judge Reynaldo Laigo, 70, and his wife Lilia, 66, died in the accident that happened along Commonwealth Avenue before dawn Monday.

Police said Laigo was driving their mini-Pajero on their way to attend dawn Mass when the incident happened.

Their vehicle was crossing Commonwealth Avenue when the bus driven by Magante slammed into the left side of the Pajero. Investigators said the bus dragged the sport utility vehicle 15 meters from the point of impact.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has suspended the franchise of the bus company for 30 days pending investigation of the mishap.
