Metro

C-5 alternate exit in the works

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines – Expecting the further growth of the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City as a business and residential hub of Metro Manila, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Fort Bonifacio Development Corp. (FBDC) have started the construction of a P375-million flyover project that would provide an alternate exit to C-5.

The project also aims to decongest the traffic volume inside the BGC, according to Manny Blas, head for community relations of FBDC.

Master planning of the BGC is being supervised by the FBDC, which is being controlled by Ayala Land Inc. and Evergreen Holdings, Inc.

There are at least 230,000 residents, locators and employees present within the 240-hectare BGC, according to the FBDC.

Blas said that once finished, the flyover, called the “BGC-C-5 Interchange,” will serve as an alternate access to the C-5 north-bound route and will decongest traffic on 26th Street and Kalayaan Avenue during rush hours.

The two-lane, one-way flyover begins at the intersections of 32nd street, University Parkway and McKinley Parkway and will stretch 800 meters eastward to the C-5 ending just before the elevated U-turn at the intersection of Kalayaan Avenue and C-5. It is due for completion in the third quarter of next year.

Blas said once in place, the BGC-C5 Interchange will also provide an alternate route for motorists passing from the Makati City Central Business District to Pateros, Pasig City, Cainta and Quezon City.

“You cannot build a city without access. This will definitely help speed-up the development of the BGC,” he said.
