Caloocan youths told to emulate Bonifacio

MANILA, Philippines – Caloocan City youths should emulate the courage of Andres Bonifacio as the local government is set to commemorate the hero’s 147th birth anniversary today, according to an official.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri said youths should imitate Bonifacio’s gallantry to help them hurdle obstacles to their goals in life.

Newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan leaders, led by Liga ng mga Barangay national president Ricojudge Echiverri, will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Bonifacio Monument in Monumento at 8 a.m.

Members of the University of the East Caloocan high school alumni association, the local police, and non-government organizations would also join in the flower offering.

“We must commemorate the patriotism of Bonifacio and our other heroes because if not for them, we would not have the kind of freedom that we now enjoy,” the mayor said.

Echiverri said Bonifacio’s descendants are also expected to grace the occasion. – Perseus Echeminada, Pete Laude
