Navotas rob suspect killed

- Pete Laude -

MANILA, Philippines - A robbery suspect was killed while three others were wounded including a fish trader during a midnight heist Tuesday at the Navotas City fish port complex.

Superintendent Nepumoceno Corpus Jr., National Capital Region Maritime Police Office chief, identified the fatality as Danilo Sevilla, 30, resident of Barangay San Roque in Navotas City.

“The slain suspect was out of prison only recently after his incarceration for robbery charges,” Corpus told The STAR yesterday.

Another suspect, Romeo Mendoza, 24, also of Navotas, who was charged with robbery and resisting arrest before the office of assistant city prosecutor Ojer Pacis, with bail set at P206,000, is recuperating in a hospital due to a bullet wound in the back.

Fish dealer Jerry Subeda, 33, sought the help of the Maritime cops led by Senior Inspector Voltaire Rivera claiming that at least three men, one riding a motorcycle, stabbed and robbed him of seven tubs of fish when he failed to give the suspects some cash at Market 1 inside the Navotas fish port complex at around 12:10 a.m.

The Maritime cops scoured the fish port area for the suspects but failed to catch the robbers but at around 3 a.m., the three suspects were reportedly seen arguing at Market 1.

According to Danilo Aspiras, 20, he saw a motorcycle-riding man wearing a black jacket with a helmet firing at Sevilla and Mendoza. Aspiras was hit by a stray bullet in the body.

When cops came to investigate, they met the wounded Mendoza along the road who tried to put up a fight when confronted by the police officers.

Mendoza was arrested and brought to the hospital for treatment.

The cops found Sevilla floating dead beneath Market 1 with a gunshot wound in the neck.

Subeda identified Sevilla and Mendoza as those who allegedly attacked and rob him of seven tubs of fish valued at more than P14,000.
