Shipyard guard shoots boy in Navotas
MANILA, Philippines - A security guard shot a 13-year-old boy reportedly for ignoring his warning to stay away from a shipyard he was guarding in Navotas City Sunday afternoon.
Bobby Orogay, a fifth-grader, is still confined at the Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center due to a gunshot wound in the left armpit.
Police arrested Jojo Jaylo, 39, a security guard of Ravago shipyard on M. Naval street in Barangay Daang Hari, a coastal village in Navotas, but failed to recover the suspect’s handgun used in the shooting.
Police Officer 2 Eva Rala of the Navotas City police station’s women and children’s protection desk said the victim and four other boys were swimming near the Ravago shipyard when Jaylo warned them to leave the area.
But instead of going away, the boys lingered in the area. Jaylo reportedly shot at them at least four times, the boys said.
One of the bullets hit Orogay in the left armpit. A resident helped the boy and brought him to the hospital for treatment.
The four other boys rushed home and told their kin about the incident. Accompanied by their parents, the boys went to the police station.
Police were preparing charges against the suspect yesterday.
