Court orders Ivler treated for colostomy complications

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City court has ordered murder suspect Jason Ivler brought to a hospital after his lawyer reported that his colostomy was bleeding and his intestine was protruding through the opening.

“The jail warden of the Quezon City Jail is hereby directed to bring accused Jason Ivler to the East Avenue Medical Center, with full security, for medical treatment of his wound and to bring (him) back to the detention cell after medication,” Judge Bayani Vargas of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 219 said.

The order is dated Nov. 10 but was served to the city jail yesterday morning.

During last Wednesday’s hearing, Ivler’s lawyer, Priscilla Marie Abante, asked that her client be given medical treatment.

Earlier, Ivler’s camp asked the court to allow him to be confined at a hospital for a procedure to reverse his colostomy, which has rendered him unable to defecate through his anus. The court has yet to resolve this plea.

Following Abante’s manifestation, State Prosecutor Olivia Torrevillas objected and said the doctor who examined Ivler had stated that his injuries were not that serious.

But according to Abante, blood is already coming out of Ivler’s body and his intestine was protruding from his wound, stressing the urgency of his need for medical attention.

“After manifestation and counter-manifestation off the record, the court granted her (Abante’s) motion to bring the accused to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment of his (Ivler’s) wound,” Vargas said.

Ivler is facing murder charges for allegedly killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. during a traffic altercation on Nov. 18, 2009 in Quezon City.
