MANILA, Philippines - Police officers from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) arrested a former Marine and his alleged cohort for gunrunning in Parañaque City last night.

Chief Inspector Romeo Niño, commander of the CIDG-NCR South, told The STAR that at around 5:30 p.m., police officers and members of the Philippine Army conducted an entrapment at the Elorde Sports Complex in Sucat.

Arrested during the entrapment were ex-Marine Rodrigo Galam and Raymundo Sulla, both residents of Parañaque City.

Niño said the suspects offered to sell three M-16 rifles for P50,000 each to undercover police officers who posed as buyers.

The lawmen seized the three M-16 rifles, several M-16 magazines, ammunition, a hand grenade and a rifle grenade.

Niño said lawmen are tracking down other members of the gang allegedly led by Galam.

The CIDG is still verifying if the guns are military property.

According to Niño, prior to the entrapment, the CIDG conducted surveillance on the gang’s movements.

The two suspects are currently detained at the CIDG headquarters in Camp Crame as charges for illegal gun possession are being readied against them.
